#1 A little bit about me

Hi everyone!

Some of you reading this may know me already, but for those who don’t my name is Laura! I’m from Macon, Georgia and I moved to Japan in 2014 when I was 25 years old.

I spent my first year living in Aichi prefecture in a smaller city called Kasugai and worked for a large Japanese eikaiwa teaching English to children of all ages.

It was really tough and I didn’t like living in the countryside much so after a year I decided to quit and move to Tokyo.

I found a sharehouse online by myself and . . .続きは下記リンクからご覧ください

#2 Staying Home

Due to Covid-19 (the corona virus) I’ve been trying to stay at home as much as possible except for going out for work sometimes. Which means I haven’t played darts for ages! When I do go out it seems like a lot of people are just going about their usual day to day life. Meanwhile at home all of my friends have been practicing social distancing for weeks, businesses have been shut down, and my city even has a curfew (though I don’t know how they enforce that). I wonder what Tokyo will do in the weeks to come.

While stuck at home a lot of my friends have been posting . . . 続きは下記リンクをクリック!

#3English Idioms

Idioms can be difficult to learn but we use them a lot in English. I was surprised how many we really use when I moved to Japan and basically couldn’t use them anymore because not many people understand them. I also find myself forgetting a lot of them because I don’t hear them anymore lol. Here’s a few in this meme I found online, can you recognize some of them? . . .続きは下記をクリックして見てね✨

#4English Idioms Answers!

So a lot of people had different answers online for my previous post about figures of speech! I tracked down the artist’s original answers though and even I didn’t know some of them. Here are Ella Barron’s answers:

#5 To cook or not to cook

So since I’ve been staying home as much as possible me and my boyfriend have been eating at home a lot.

Honestly we used to eat out a lot and maybe only cooked at home about once a week. And when I say we cooked, I mean my boyfriend cooked lol.

He cooks and I clean! I often work late at night as well, so sometimes I get home and he makes me a late dinner (shout out to my bf for being awesome). Now our fridge is more full of food than it’s ever been before. . . 続きは下記リンクをクリック!

#6 Phrasal Verbs

Hi all! My friend Allison (of Allison’s English) and I make videos explaining about English phrasal verbs.

Phrasal verbs are verbs used with a preposition (look after) or an adverb (look up) or both (look up to).

When used this way it changes the verb’s meaning, so not simply just “look”.

We use them very often in English so while they can be difficult to learn and memorize they are very useful! See how different the meanings are for the previous three examples.

#7 Ibaraki

Usually I like to travel a lot but the coronavirus has really put a damper on that! Thankfully traveling in Japan is fairly easy to do so I’ve made it my goal to visit as many prefectures as I can during my time here. So far I’ve visited 27 of the 47 prefectures!

My most recent trip was to Ibaraki. There didn’t seem to be much to do there lol but it’s near Tokyo and I wanted to cross it off my list so my boyfriend and I went there for two days. We went to Ushiku Daibutsu and the Jackson Tsukuba Space Center.
